Your pillars in two minutes

This guide describes the Pillars phone app. The website does the same calculations, but some screens and features work differently or aren't here yet.

Each pillar has two characters: a stem on top and a branch below.

  • The stem has an element (Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal or Water) and a polarity (Yang or Yin).
  • The branch has an animal and a main element, and holds hidden stems inside it.

The four pillars

  • Year: the wider context, your generation and family of origin.
  • Month: the season you were born in, the most influential pillar in the chart.
  • Day: you. Its stem is your Day Master, the center of the whole reading.
  • Hour: the most personal part, and what looks ahead.

How it's read

Each character is read by how it relates to your Day Master: it supports you, you express it, you manage it, or it challenges you. These are the ten roles. On the Chart tab you can tap any pillar to see its details.
