Cookies and storage

Last updated: November 1, 2026

In short: Today the site uses no cookies of its own and no advertising cookies. It keeps only what it needs to work in your browser: the theme you chose, a few settings of its own, copies of its files so it works offline and, if you use the tools, your people and notes. None of it leaves your device.

What the site keeps in your browser

The site sets no cookies of its own. What it needs to work goes in your browser’s storage, which, unlike a cookie, isn’t sent along with every request:

  • theme, in local storage (localStorage): the theme you chose, System, Day or Night. Without it, the site follows your device’s theme.
  • pilares.homeChart, in local storage: just a number, the height your chart takes on the home page, so its space is held while it loads and nothing jumps. It holds none of your details.
  • pilares.installHint, in local storage: whether you closed the hint about installing Pillars, in Settings.
  • pilares.persistAsked, in local storage: when the site last asked your browser not to clear your data. It asks at most once a week.
  • pilares, a browser database (IndexedDB): your people, with their names, birth details, relationships, events and notes, and your settings. It’s created when you use the tools, such as the chart.
  • pilares-*, in the browser’s cache (Cache Storage): copies of the site’s own pages and files (the screens, the fonts, the calculation engine and the texts you’ve already opened), so it works offline. It holds none of your details.

The language comes from the address (English pages start with /en), so nothing is stored for it.

None of this leaves your device or is used to track you, which is why it doesn’t need your consent. It’s deleted when you clear this site’s data in your browser.

Cloudflare’s cookies

Cloudflare, which hosts the site, may set technical cookies to protect it from bots and attacks (such as __cf_bm). They’re needed for the service and aren’t used for advertising.

Advertising

There are no ads today, so there are no advertising cookies either.

If we turn on Ezoic’s ads, Ezoic and its partners may use cookies and device identifiers to show ads, measure them, limit how often you see the same one and, if you agree, personalize them. Where the law requires it, they won’t use them until you choose in Ezoic’s consent notice. This page will say so, with the date of the change.

How to delete them

You can delete this site’s cookies and data in your browser settings. That also deletes your people and notes, so if you want to keep them, download a backup first.
