What BaZi looks at between two people
Picture two gardens side by side, with a low fence in between. Water from one runs into the other. One tree's shade falls on the neighbour's flowers. BaZi looks at two charts in a similar way: what flows between them, where they shade each other and what they share.
What it looks at
- The two Day Masters. Your element and theirs: does one feed the other, keep it in check, or are they the same? Some pairs have classic images, like "The river washes the jewel" (壬 and 辛) or "Sun on the water" (丙 and 壬).
- What each one brings. One chart may have plenty of an element the other needs. When both give each other what's missing, the reading calls it "An almost perfect exchange of elements".
- The role each plays. Their Day Master takes one of the ten roles in your chart: an equal, a source of joy, a treasure to look after, someone who gives direction, or someone who supports you.
- Contacts between pillars. Combinations, clashes, harms and punishments between your branches and theirs. For partners, the Day branch counts most, because the tradition calls it the spouse palace.
- Stars across charts. One person can be the other's Nobleman, for example.
- Time. Which decade each of you is in, and a chart of the years ahead. For partners it's called "Their years together". For others, "Their cycles: when one dips, the other rises".
- Directions. The Kua directions you share, if you both have a Kua.
What it doesn't do
- No percentages, scores or match verdicts. Two people aren't a number.
- It doesn't say whether you should be together. That's yours to decide.
- It can't know what the other person feels or what they'll do.
- A clash isn't a sentence. Many close couples have one. Often it just means two different rhythms.
The pair page carries this note: "Symbolic tendencies of the charts, not judgments about the people or the relationship."
Where to see it
- See together, on a person's page or the Chart tab: pick one person and you'll see both charts side by side. The app remembers your last pick. You'll find the bond cards, the "Harmonies" and "Friction points" lists, and the dates you've entered for the two of you.
- See as a group: you and up to two more people. You can save a group with a name and open it again later.
- PDF: the report can include pair pages, too.
Both people need a birth date. Someone with only imported pillars can't be compared.
A good way to use it
Read it together, as a conversation starter rather than a test. One question the app suggests is a good place to begin: where do your daily rhythms tend to clash? Then ask the kinder one: where do we already help each other without noticing?
