Solar terms

4 min

The solar year is divided into 24 terms, one every 15° of the Sun's apparent path. Twelve of them, the Jié (節), open the BaZi months; the other twelve, the Qì (氣), fall in between.

The twelve that open a month

Lì Chūn (Start of Spring), Jīng Zhé, Qīng Míng, Lì Xià, Máng Zhòng, Xiǎo Shǔ, Lì Qiū, Bái Lù, Hán Lù, Lì Dōng, Dà Xuě and Xiǎo Hán.

Why they matter

A BaZi month starts at the exact instant of its term, not on a fixed date. If you were born near a term, a few minutes can change your Month pillar. That's why the app calculates the Sun's position precisely.

Reminders

In Settings you can turn on Solar term reminders: your phone tells you when each BaZi month begins, offline.
