Kua number

卦 guà

A number that comes from your birth year and the male or female formula. In feng shui, it marks your four favorable directions.

The date is read in your browser's time zone and the calculation runs right here: the date never leaves your device.

Traditional formula

Two traditional formulas (the direction of your life cycles and your Kua number) ask for male or female. Which version should we use? It changes nothing else and says nothing about your identity.

Kua is a personal direction system from Feng Shui, separate from BaZi. A birth date can't tell you anything about a building.

The eight numbers

Your Kua number is 1

Your Kua is like water: it always finds its way. You belong to the East group, so your good directions are north, east, southeast and south. Turn your desk, bed and door toward these where you can.

  • Desk: face southeast, your direction of growth and success. North is a calm second choice.
  • Bed: let your head point east for good rest, or south for harmony at home and in love.
  • Front door: a door facing southeast or south tends to feel the most welcoming.
  • Avoid: southwest is traditionally your most draining direction, so keep it behind you. Northeast, west and northwest are weaker too.

Your Kua number is 2

Picture a wide, flat field that takes in the rain and grows grain. Kua 2 belongs to the West group, and your good directions are northeast, southwest, west and northwest. Small turns of a chair or a bed toward them traditionally help.

  • Desk: face northeast, your direction of growth and success. Southwest is a calm second choice.
  • Bed: let your head point west for good rest, or northwest for harmony at home and in love.
  • Front door: a door facing northeast or northwest tends to feel the most welcoming.
